Default Oil ... VRod '07 - Reading, Type, Changing

V-Rod VRSCAW 2007 1250cc

Im about to do my 1st Oil Change. Ive done them before on my other bikes but this is my 1st Harley and all the other forums have so many differing ideas..!

Hot, Cold, Leaning on Stand, Level (AND HOW, without a Lift Stand),
Half way up Hatching, top of Hatching, etc, etc. Everyone seems to have a different notion on this.

Metric System
1. What Oil should I Use
2. What quantity of Oil?
3. Any Tips or clues to assist please?

Oh, and NO, I don't have the Manual, previous owner left it in the rain then threw it away..!

Cheers

Greg

Hi Greg, Welcome to the forums

First off the 07 VRSCAW came out with the 1130cc engine unless someone did a upgrade to the 1250.

The oil requires is 20-50w oil suitable for wet a clutch.
The most common oil people use with good results is either AMSOIL MCV 20-50 or MOBIL 1 V-Twin formula (usually available at Walmart or Autozone )
Stay Away From the overpriced so called synthetic from Harley (it is not a true 100% synthetic but a 60-40 blend)

All VRSC's Take 5 quarts of oil.

The oil level gets checked with a warm engine and the bike in the upright position.

Hope this helps

you want to run the bike some before changing it so the contaminates get picked up an run out with the old oil. a good trick is to change the oil run it some to fill the oil filter then let it sit to drain back into the oil pan. You know you just put 5 qts in so with it leaning on the stand check the oil an mark the level with a file so now you can check it with out centering the bike.
