Welcome from Mississippi, Dude if a harley is what you want then dont settle for nothing less. Shop around and you'll find what you want try hd trader.com thats where i bought my last scoot and i love it. I ride withmetric bikes and they try to mimic the sound of a harley but who wants to ride a bike that sounds like go-cart with headers! Just my opinion. decide what you want and persue that one thing, and you'll find it
There are Harleys outthere in your price range. Ya just gotta look for them.
If you haven't tried Craigs List, I would suggest it. http://craigslist.org
Here's a few examples I found in the Indianapolis area........
You sound like you're leaning toward a metric bike due to price and trying to justify that it's just as good (or better) than a Harley. Last year I sold my2003 Vulcan Nomad. It was a great bike, but no matter how hard I tried to make it sound like a Harley, look like a Harley, etc..,the bottom line is "it ain't a Harley". I can't tell you how many times people asked me if it was a Harley and the look of disappointment in their face when I said no. It's a personal decision that you have to make.If the "Harley" thing is not important to you, just buy whatever you want and don't look back. If it is important to you, I would suggesta used Sportster (2004 or newer).Ride it for six months and if you decide you don't like it, you can sell it for what you paid for it (assuming you get a good deal on it).The rubber mount Sportsters (2004 and up) are good bikes for the money.
