Needs help...
Hello! I found this website and after reading some comments I realized this is a place that might be able to help me out. I own a 2002 Dyna-Low Rider that has around 10k miles. Actually, it was my Dad's (and he only rode it for about a yr) and now I am responsible for having to sell it. I really don't know much else about it. I was wondering if I could get some advise on the best place to begin on trying to sell it. I had heard that cycletrader.com might be good, but the problem is that I just don't know anything about bikes. Any advise would be great! Thanks!
You should have no problems selling it, but you have to find out what sort of modifications and accessories have been added. You may be selling for thousands too little. Get a knowledgeable person you trust, or a dealer to go over the bike and tell you what it has on it. If you have a camera post some pictures on this site and I can take alook to see what I notice. Some things that you can't see right away are engine modifications, if any, so see if any of his buddies know if he did any mods. If you can get a list and pictures together you will get a good idea of the value. Or you can follow 12Stones advice and learn to ride.

TRADITIONALLY, you can sell the bike for what it was purchased for originally...you normally don't get much back on mods you have made...unless it's customized to the hilt. Check out Kellys Blue Book website...or NADA both are pretty good, though I tend to use the NADA one more.
Good luck,

Shelley,
Right now, it is pretty much a buyer's market but because you are in Houston, it should not be too bad. Before I ran an ad on ebay or cycletrader, I would try to sell it locally through the newspaper or Thrifty Nickel.
Get in touch with the closest Harley shop and talk to them about what the bike is worth and have them help you write up a good description on the bike for an advertisement. Most dealerships are pretty good about helping folks so this request should not be a problem. They also might sell it for you on consignment.
Lots of luck.

The bike looks basically stock, except it has aftermarket pipes. If it has engine mods the only way to know is to go to the dealer that he used and see if they have records.
It might be a good idea to have someone with knowledge to check the bike and make sure everything is working properly ie: good battery, starts easy, nothing broken, fresh oil change, tire thread percentage left, etc. This helps when someone comes to look at it and you lose a sale because it had something wrong with it. The bike looks like it has sit a while so you would want to get fresh fuel in it as well, drain the old put in the new.
If you know how, give the bike a good cleaning and waxing or find someone who can. Before taking pictures for a sale ad, find a good place to take a picture that will make the bike stand out and shine.
Good luck with selling the bike and hope this helps a little.

Well all of that is very good to know because it has sat for a while (at least 6 months). So I think I will definitely have to get a professional to take a look at it. Thank you so much for your input!
