Hello ..
Hello to all, just a new member playing with this. Brand new Harley owner.
Finally, after waiting about 3 decades, I decided it was now or never. Went down to Central Texas Harley and picked out a Charcoal Denim Iron.
Oh I know, its sort of a ladies or beginners bike, but I clearly fall under the latter. It's really the perfect bike for me. I live in a small town, less than 5 miles across at any angle. I"m about 2.5 miles from work. My longest trips are to surrounding towns on errands. I went about 30-35 miles today to get a watermelon. I hit somewhere around 80 miles one time, running errands in 3 towns around me....
I'm 53, love cruisers, love cruising the back roads at low speed. I wanted relatively light and not difficult to maneuver or handle. There's no long distance touring in my future, factually have no desire to do so. I love cruising down the main street at 35 mph, going to the coffee shop and then the post office.
Im a school teacher, starting back up on Monday, and very fired up about my new commuter wheels. Texas weather is pretty conducive to riding most days of the year, I've bought a cover to protect the bike at work, she's garaged at home...which makes her special because the 4 cars can't boast garage time.
I"m in love with my bike, something I should have done quite some time ago. So far, she has: new seat, forward controls, handlebar risers, turn signal relocation, luggage rack, short sissy, wind screen, and slip-ons.
I'm sure winter will bring some other additions, I know for certain there's an oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge in her future. I'm just old school enough to know I really want those on before next summer.
Right now she's got about 1500 mi on her. Please don't give me grief, but I did the 1000 mile service myself. I read somewhere that it was a good idea to learn your bike, so I did. I have some mechanical experiences and knowledge base, not a total novice. Oh I know, probably voids the warranty and a smarter man would want a better trained eye to look her over, but that's just not me.....
A smarter man probably doesn't ride anyway!!! lol
