Welcome to the forums. After you take the MSF go to an empty parking lot and practice what you've learned. Ride like you've go a target on your back and remember, hope is not a plan

Welcome from South Dakota.
First, take the course. I did not when I started. I started young on dirt bikes and such so figured didn't need it. Wish I had because the adjustment period to public roads and riding with others would have been shorter with proper instruction.

Avoiding group rides is bad advice. Or at least incomplete advice. Avoid large groups and groups of strangers until you are more comfortable. I wouldn't go signing up for poker runs right away. That sort of thing.

You asked about rider etiquette. How are you supposed to learn if you are always solo. But then if you are always solo you don't need etiquette.
Practice practice practice. Ride with a couple of good, safe, experienced riders that you trust who have good riding skills. Just a couple. They can help you learn by example.

Take your time and you will do fine. The more miles you get the more comfortable you will be.
