My 97 road king fuel injected will miss pop back fire and sometime drop a cylinder at slow speeds. Seems to clear itself out upon exceleration. I can drive 1000 miles between problem, soomtimes 50 miles. I also noticed that i hear valve clater at take off, when acting up. The bike has 48000 miles on it, basicly stock except for mufflers, and screaming eagle K&N air filter breather kit, a download was done after i done this work 28000 miles ago and never missed a beat untill now. I have changed intake gask. plugs and wires and coil. There is no engine light out the normal, runs fine otherwise. THANK YOU for any help.
Sounds kinda like my newly re-manufactured 80ci I JUST got back from HD factory on my 1997 Harley Davidson Road King FLHR.
When I have my oval, smoked wind screen on, I can hear the lifter clatter clear as a crystal... occasional short lived dieseling when shutting off the engine, occasional back fire while shutting off the engine and occasional backfire on starting the engine.
I was running regular fuel and just today switched to super premium. I expect the problems to go away by the 3rd tank of super premium and past the 500 mi break-in period.
I LOVE my new 1997 Harley Davidson Road King FLHR!
