Do you have any service records or receipts etc? It being a 37 year old machine I'd want as much info as possible on it's past.
If not I'd want the piece of mind having a new drive belt if it hasn't be replaced recently and probably other rubber bits like swing arm bushings.
You didn't mention how many miles are on the bike or if it has been sitting for some time or not.
Tires 5 years old or older should be replaced, possibly rubber brake lines and a flush and refill of brake fluid.
You may also want to invest in new motor mounts if they are original or older replacements.
I'd do a new stator rotor and regulator with an upgraded higher output set,no sense replacing one part in the system only to have another fail soon after.
I like Electra Glides and have a combined mileage near 350,000 miles on them having owned 1989,2000 & 2019 models.
A factory service manual will be your best friend.
No receipts. I'm not too concerned about any service records. This was a straight up swap, i.e., Caveat Emptor (buyer beware) Value-wise, the bike owes me $3k. If it runs and I can have some fun with it, I'll call it even. If it's crap, I can part it out.
The bike has new tires, a new drive belt and a new battery.
All the flexible brake lines will eventually be replaced.
I'm going to wait until the frame repair is done before investing in new parts.
Downloaded the service manual about an hour ago.
Welcome! Beautiful ride. I highly recommend always buy used low mileage garage queens and never finance. You ride so much more freely!
Thanks, but unfortunately this one is not a 'low mileage garage queen'...I'm finding it's more like a 'rode hard & put away wet, chain smoking diner waitress'.
