Hello. I've been kicking around since February and haven't introduced myself. Bike life started in 1994 when I got my 1st motorcycle. An '87 883 hugger. loved that bike for many years and would strip it and rework it every winter in my Vt apartments. Paint, tuning along with many issues of Iron Horse (Man I miss those guys...Genghis, Fritz, all those guys!). In '98, I moved with work to Maryland. Rode that 883 from Vermont to South Jersey and parked her at the girl's family's place while we looked for a place to stay. Those joints on the Tappanzee were brutal but, I will never forget the satisfaction of riding that bike almost 400 miles in one day! Like a lot of guys, I finally found the woman I would spend my life with, and let the bike go to help with our wedding. She listened to me sigh, roll down the window whenever a Harley went by or was near one on the highway so I could hear those pipes. This went on for 10 years.
Fast forward to 2019, we were driving into town and there was a beautiful blue and white deluxe on the way for sale. I was in a position where I didn't have crazy bills, the truck was paid off. She made me stop and look at it. I honestly didn't want to. I didn't want to get excited only to have yo walk away. 3 or 5 days later, it was mine. I remember how nervous I was (10 years since being on a bike) but about half a mile down the road, I had the biggest shitveating grin!
Bike and I took good care of eachother until October, 2023. I was a half mile from work, on my way in. Went through the intersection and there was an SUV in a lot exit. They lunched and stopped, I swore we made eye contact but last memory until waking up in the back of an ambulance was that SUV, dead stopped across my lane. I got reaallly lucky, bad wrist sprain and a concussion. Pearl, on the other hand, didn't make it. I still miss that bike.
Feb of '24, ai was able to wrap all of the insurance crap up (thankfully, the other driver owned the incident) and found an '08 FLHRCi.
I want to extend my thanks to those who have taken time to answer my questions. There is a good community of riders here.
