This is a very nice site...I'm still trying to find my way around. You guy's have already saved me some money on one of the tips I found in the tips section....I was thinking about installing some risers and drag bars on my roadking and the only kit I have found to do that with is from Carlini for like 270.00....I found a tip that shows how to drill out the stock cover to do the same thing....That was worth more than the price for admission....lol
Well a great big hearty welcome to you Don!!! I used to live in Culpeper, right near the Rapidan on the Orange County line, just a stones throw from where you're at. Like you I love Civil War History. In fact, there was a graveyard on my property. The original owner was a Colonel for the CSA. Was doing some exploring in the woods nearby and came across a Union Buckle. My neighbor, found a saber stuck in the banks of the river after a bad flood one time. The house at the end of the road where I lived was used a Hospital during the Civil War. Some really neat stories, I'll have to share with you. I also used to do the Civl War Re-enactments, but I didn't cross dress for the calvary. I'll have to send you a pic of me all decked out like a true Southern Belle.
Glad you found this site, it's a Great Forum with lots of Great Folks. A lot of my family still lives up in Culpeper, so maybe one of these times we can meet up. I'd love to see your Harleys and definitely your Civil War collection.
I bet I know exactly where you lived....lol There is alot of civil war history here for sure...the area where you lived and all along Clarks Mountain and the Rapidan were some main areas for campsites and troop movements. It is written that while the confederate army was camped on the southside of the Rapidan, that Robert E. Lee rode to the top of Clarks mountain and reported that after dark fell... there were yankee campfires all across the countryside north of the Rapidan as far as the eye could see...I do alot of research... reading various records and studying old maps trying to find where the troops camped and I came across that quote...and what's really cool...I actually found the exact spot on Clarks Mountain that the confederates used as a signal station and relic hunted the area...and we found alot of confederate relics there....Everytime we would hunt there, I would try to visualize what the area looked like back then and imagine the fact that Robert E. Lee was actually there at that very spot...it's a very awesome hobby, that's why I've been doing it all these years....[8D]
The next time you're going to be in the area let me know, it would be great to meet you...
