Congrats on the new Harley! I'll be joining you very soon - just sold my BMW R1100RT on Ebay last evening and will start shopping around tomorrow. I pretty well have my mind (?) made up; either a Road King Classic, or, the Fatboy. You mentioned replacing the factory exhaust and also the computer chip. Please explain - is that what must be done with fuel injection to compensate for the low backpressure? Although I don't personally care for straight thru exhausts, I need to know how to get a small amount of that true Harley sound through! Thanks!
Wow, thanks for all the great comments! What a great group of members and the bikes everyone has looks awesome! The weather here in Florida has been rainy although I was able to get a quick pic in. This picture shows the saddle bags, sissy bar and the SE IIâs exhaust.
phat1- looking forward to seeing pics of your new wheels when you get themâŚ
Retired_Ted â congrats on the recent sale, hope you made out well. The factory exhaust was replaced, but not the computer chip. The dealer will simply remap the air/fuel ratio with an update from Harley for EFI models. Iâm certainly not a mechanic, but on carbureted models I believe you would still need to adjust or replace the jets on the carburetor for maximum performance. On my particular model, since it is a Big Bore from the factory, the dealer did not have a computer update at the time they replaced the exhaust so they had to contact Harley to have one sent to them. It took about a week for the update to arrive at the dealer so I rode the bike with the new exhaust minus the computer update for about a week. After bringing the bike back into the dealer for the computer update, I could immediately feel the differenceâŚthe bike is now an animal! To make a long story short; with the freer flowing exhaust the bike requires more fuel to prevent a lean condition, that is what the computer update is for. If youâre looking for HP gains with a great sounding exhaust, the SE IIâs work great for me. The SE IIâs are not extremely loud, they give me great performance and a great Harley sound. Loud enough to please me and my friends, yet tame enough for the wife. If you could of seen the grin on the mechanics face after he installed the exhaust and fired up the bike while still on the liftâŚthat would explain it all. Hope this has helped.
BEA-U-Tiful bike.......I can't believe FAtBoy is 15 yrs old.....sees like yesterday when they came out, and my envy started....Great ride- more pix- write often (What the hell- send money)..
PhatHarley4Me - Awesome looking Eagle, you must be brave to ride that thing in SFL. I just moved from down there, the snowbirds down there can't drive if their life depended on it. I'll definately keep an eye out for you, when you coming up? I'll be along the events on US1 this Saturday...
Again, thanks for all the great compliments. A lot of rubber neckers out there when I take her through the neighborhood.
