Default My turn

Well, it's about time. I've been a member for a while, but just recently started posting. My name is Danny, and I have a Z71 Colorado PU. Thus the screen name. I live in Tulsa Oklahoma and I'm 49 years old (for a few more months).

I started riding bikes when I was 10 years old. My first, a 2.5 hp Sears mini-bike. Within a year, I graduated to a 4hp, and then a 5hp before my Dad finally got me my first "motorcycle". A 50cc Benelli. The first time I used a clutch. And thus started a 10 year career of wheelies. LOLAfter numerous broken taillights, I got pretty good at it. Even when doing it intentionally.

After the Benelli, my Dad got me a 65cc Harley-Davidson Leggero. This was the start of numerous bikes between the ages of 12 and 18. I've had other Harleys, including a 125cc, a 175cc, and a 250cc, and several Suzuki dual purpose bikes, before going into the Air Force. While I was in the Air Force, I fell in love with the 1980 Harley-Davidson Low Rider. Had to have one, and finally got it. Unfortunately, I was still stationed in Okinawa when my Dad picked it up. So I had to suffer thru about 10 months of just looking at it's photo before I got to actually ride it. As luck would have it, I come home on a Monday (bike shops closed) so I couldn't get the battery charged up to ride. Well, I wasn't going to let that stop me. I hooked up Dad's little battery charger and after about 2 hours of biting my nails, I decided it was good enough. Naturally, it wouldn't start so I decided to kick start it. Ever kick start a 1340cc motor?? It kicked back and launched me over the bars. But, I finally got it started and was able to ride my baby!!!! Unfortunately, my 30 day leave was over way too soon and had to leave it behind when I went back to Okinawa for another year. Then when I got home, I got married. BIG MISTAKE. That marriage cost me my bike. Had to sell it to pay bills she left me with when she left me. That was 1981.

Fast forward to now. I had one bike in all those years, a 80's model Suzuki 650L. So now, I'm chomping at the bit to get another Harley. I can't wait. Finances are the only thing holding me back right now, but not for long. (seems I keep getting married and having bills. One of these days I'll figure out how to avoid all that).

So now I'm trying my best to work things out so I can get a Nightster. It's closest to my budget, and I really like the nostalgic look. It reminds me of some of the bikes I saw on the road when I was a young gun.

Anyway, sorry for the long introduction. At least you know all there is now.

Take care, live long, and ride hard.
