Another Hello from Idaho...
Just joined today. Just wanted to say "Hi".
shewolf turned me on to this site. This smiley reminds me of her the last time we went out on the town. [sm=alcoholic.gif] LOL!!!
I've been riding Harleys for 32 years which must be some new math because I swear I'm only 39 years old (again). LOL
I own four bikes:
'02 Night Train
'80 FLT Shovelhead
'82 Sturgis Shovelhead
'86 rigid framed Shovelhead (special construction)
It's getting a 95" motor soon. I have most of the stuff but am waiting for my heads out of Texas. Their being flowed by a buddy of mine that has a shop in Houston. The only parts to buy are the Delkron rocker support plates.
Parts sitting here, waiting on my heads are:
S&S .585â lift cam
S&S cam gears
S&S G carb w/ ThunderJet
S&S Roller Rockers
S&S adjustable push rods and covers
Jimâs HydroSolid lifters
Delkron cam support plate
AIM VP83T variable Pressure clutch
Parts already installed:
Dyna 2000 ignition
R&B Racing 2into1 exhaust pipes
Barnett Kevlar clutch discs
I went through a tire, a clutch and a rear belt in less then 5k miles. I have a tendency to "ride it like I stole it". I changed ot over to a rear chain. I own a '82 Sturgis (twin belt drive) and I can tell you the factory belts DON'T hold up. They break! I went through a good dozen front belts and three rear belts on that bike and it's only a warmed up 88" Shovelhead. Ended up going to chain on it as well. Front and rear.
My '82 Sturgis is completely torn down now. My '86 is torn down to a rolling chassis. It's getting a "facelift".

My '80 FLT just before I brought it out of mothballs. It sat for 7 years while I rode other bikes. Think it's a bitch to keep one running? Ha, try multiple motorcycles sometime. Looks rough here but this only has 34,000 miles on it and it's 26 years old. First year of the FLT's. Rubbermounted Shovelhead, FLT style frame (inverted forks) and 5-speed tranny....smooth for it's day but NOTHING like the news ones. My Night Train rides ten times better then this ol' girl. But, still fairly smooth on the highway. Way smoother then my rigid frame motorbike.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Story behind my "80 FLT.
It belonged to my friend, Chuck Johnson. He died on July 12, 1993 from liver cancer. Chuck was the kind of friend we all hope to have. I was a newlywed, soon to have a new baby, no money and trying to get through trade school when I met him. He had his own business and hired me during the summer when I was out of school and sometimes during school as well. Helped me out greatly!
When we became friends, he rode a jap bike and wanted a Harley, VERY badly! He saved and bought this '80 FLT and was so proud of it.
Well, he started turning yellow and went to the doc. Doc tells him he has liver cancer and only had a few months to live. He died a few months later. Being how he owned his own business, he didn't have insurance and became a ward of the state, or indigent, or whatever they call it. He owned several vehicles and was required to sell all but one. The one he didn't sell was this bike even though he couldn't ride it anymore. It had meant that much to him.
Chuck, his mother, brother, sister and I were in his hospital room with a lawyer, doing his Last Will and Testament, and his Living Will. Chuck was near death, laying in bed. When the lawyer asked what the family had planned about his motorcycle, Chuck's mother said they (the family) had all talked about, and seeing how I was his best friend, the motorcycle should go to me. About floored me. That was probably the greatest honor anyone had ever given me. The family knew how much that motorcycle meant belong to Chuck.
So, it's my honor to ride it for Chuck until he can ride it again.
I'll try them here directly off my computer. Bear with me, I'll get it.
