Renting is a good idea to get the feel of the bike at speed and slow speed handling. I took test drives on different makes and sat on more than I care to admit. Soon as I threw my leg over and settled in on my Dyna, I knew it was the bike for me even without a test drive. It just felt right. I have not been disappointed.
Remember: It is your ride and it has to fit you and your riding style; no matter what anybody else says.
Howdy Kris and welcome. I think that you have been given some good advice about renting various bikes before you buy. Renting will be a lot cheaper than buying and it will help you decide which one is right for you. If you are araid that you might drop your new ride very often, the idea about putting engine guards on it wouldn't be a bad idea. Hope that you are able to get your new Harley. ENJOY THE RIDE.
Kris, Welcome to our little group. Test 'em all, Rent if you can. I can tell you the Dynas feel very stable and smooth. The most important thing is that you eliminate the "potential" from your "Potential new Harley rider". Enjoy every minute of your pre-purchase research.
Ride Safe. Ride Often.
Welcome into the saddle....My wife rides a harley, its the Vrod. You probably saying its too fast and heavy but she is 5'8" 125lbs and handles herself well. It is a fast bike if you use the power, it is also a very well balanced bike will low center of gravity as well. I would suggest you test drive the sporty as well as the vrod. My wife belongs to a vrod forum (vrodforums.com) that is very similar to this site. There are lots of women that ride vrods and they can give you additional insight on the bike. But is all about getting on the road and ride....nothing like the wind in you hair, the smell of the surroundings, ahhhh.
