Newbie in De
I ended up taking a pretty good beating on the trade.
Having said that, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A SPORTSTER! If that is the bike that you really want, then you will be very happy and enjoy every second you spend in the saddle. Buy what you want, no matter what I, or anyone else, says.
Oh, and welcome from sunny San Diego!
Coffee and Delmarksman,
Hope I spelled the names right, the reason I was looking at a Sportster is that my neighbor and the sales people at Mike's suggested it for my first bike ever, cost is part of the issue but I am interested in learning more, I also looked at a Street Bob but it seemed like a lot of money for someone just getting started, I will definately reconsider now and I appreciate your input.
Now here is first of many dumb questions, don't worry no assless chaps for me, I am not familiar yet with the model numbers so I am not sure which bike Delmarksman was referring to?
Thanks
It is only 1-2k more than the 1200 XLC. And honestly, it's worth every penny!!!
It's much less than the Bob's and is really just a supersized Sporty, IMO.
Maybe I am assuming too much here but, I get the feeling that you are in the same boat that I was in8 months ago.
I went with the Sportster more for what I felt was going to be a cost savings than anything else.
In the long run, I regretted it.
I did not listen to many folks who tried to talk me out of it.
Please don't take me/my comment wrong, The 1200 XLC is a great bike.
I just out grew it in very short order.
In less than a month and especially after taking the MSF class, I wanted more.
After my first ride of < 50 miles I hated the suspension and was looking to spend ~ 1K for new/better and that was just the beginning.
So I say again, take the MSF class first, get your license if you don't have it already,
and take a few test rides or even go so far as to rent 1 from Mikes, either for a day or longer.
It WILL be money well spent.
I can promise you, If you buy the bike that you feel that you can afford,
And for that reason only or,
not the bike that you want... (I didn't even know about the XD when I got my XL, wish I did)
You will regret it.
I can tell you that Dealer trade in on a used 1200 XLC, you will be offered > 7 grand.
Yes that's on a bike that's 12,500 new. IIRC, the FXD's are like 13,5 to 15 for the FXDC (custom).
Not sure where you are but feel free to PM or email me anytime.
I'll be happy to help in anyway that I can.
