Hey. I'm Brandon.

I'm a West Virginian, schooling in Florida. I'm not a Harley owner yet, but I'm working darn hard at getting one. I've been hooked since my uncle let me ride with him on his Fat Boy when I was little.

I've been riding on my own for about 4 months now. I have a little Honda Rebel 250, which I've put a couple thousand miles on already (including a day-and-a-half long thousand mile ride from Lakeland, Fl to Charleston, WV partially in a stupid hurricane )

I'm a small guy, 5'5", 130lbs, and the Rebel is pretty light underneath me.

It's time to move up, I'm just not sure how far up. I wanna invest in something that I won't outgrow in the next few years. At the same time, I want something I'm gonna be able to flat-foot and stoplights and not worry about dropping. Preferably something in matte black.

Anyone have any tips for moving from a 300lb bike to something 550+?
Or what that something should be?

Welcome from Virginia. Go sit on some at a dealer and you will have a better idea of what fits best.

Yeah. I went and sat on a Sportster 1200 Low at our local HD dealership. I liked it alot. I could pick it up easily, but I have no way of knowing what it would ride like, because you have to be 21 to test.

I wouldn't want to go beneath 1200. Like I said, I want something there's no chance of me outgrowing in a very long time. Think a used Dyna is do-able?

Welcome from the coast of Washington State. If you haven't already, take a MSF course, best money you'll ever spend for riding. Take a look at the Fat Boy or possibly a Heritage. Fairly low and plenty of bike. I think I'd stay away from the Sportster, not much fun on a longer haul, (forgive me guys) but HD's "crotch rocket". ( I know I'm gonna get grief for that!!!) .02
