Hello all, I have been riding dirt bikes and four wheels for as long as I can remember... now that I am 18, I really want to get a motorcycle before I go off to college. My folks know I would be safe and things of that nature, and they stress that everytime we sit down and discuss the point of me wanting a bike. With gas prices soaring at the rate in which they are... my argument continues to strengthen however my parents always refute me by saying, "its not you we are worried about... its the other drivers." Does anyone have any ideas/points I could argue in my favor of getting a bike and just being able to ride. They are so afraid of me getting hurt. Has anyone else had to win over their folks? Help me out!! Please and thank you. Take care.
Have to side with the Parents since I don't know you or them. Told my son, No Bike as long as you live here, cause I knew he had a problem with SPEED. He is on his own now and we ride together when he is in town. OH and welcome to the forum.
Howdy, welcome to the forum. I think that it is natural for your parents to worry about you. Never give up the idea of wanting a motorcycle and maybe some day, your parents will see your side of it, or you might have to wait until you move out of the house and get on your own. No offense, but I can't side with you against your parents. You might just have to be patient for awhile.
Welcome to the real world. Parents are suppose to have more wisdom than their children. Give them a chance and you might be surprised they know more about this issue than meets the eye.....oh yeah,

From reading your post your parents have been able to afford to give you dirt bikes and four wheelers. I wish all kids could be so lucky. With the experience that you have you probably can ride a street bike with no problem. Until you have kids of your own, you'll never really understand the decisions parents will make for the best interest and protection of their children. If you really want to ride, save up your own money take a Riders education course, and with your own money rent a bike on a weekend with your parents consent of course. Hopefully you will have the long and fruitful life in front of you, please respect what you're parents say, try to look at it through their eyes.
