Hey there. I've been riding for a little over a year now. After spending a few months riding behind my now ex-fiance, I realized I wanted my own damn bike. I figured I'd buy exactly what I wanted to ride. I ended up buying one off of ebay. While I was waiting for my Fatboy to be shipped from the frozen tundra of the north, I took the safety class. If you learn on something big, riding smaller will be a piece of cake, right? So far I've ridden the little 250cc things in class, and my 1450cc Fatboy. My point is this: Buy what you want. Learn on what you want to ride. I have a girlfriend who started with a 883 and has dropped it at least 4 times now, I've not dropped mine (so far - knocking on wood). I think the Fatboy is much better balanced. To me it's easier to ride than the little 250's in class. They seemed topheavy and jumpy. The Fatboy is smooth to turn and accelerate. I love it.
