Hi my name is Steve and im currently shopping for my first bike. My down payment will 2000$. I dont have much credit as im only 19 so a loan might be hard to come by. So obvioulsy the alternative would be to get financed. The local shop (Carbondale IL) told me that I could only by a 09 Sportster as a first time buyer. 150 A month is about my limit for payments
Question's
-Where should I go to find a bike? Should I just get financed by HD?
-Is this true about the first time buyer? Or can I talk them into a used one?
-Should I just stick it out and find a Cosigner for a loan and Find one off Ebay?
-Im 6'1, will a sportster be big enough for me to ride comfortablly (Planning on a trip to Florida).
Thx for any answers!
Steve,
The main rule is research! Read everything you can on Harleys. There are a LOT of good used ones out there, I mean a LOT of them. In the end, you gotta pick the Harley that speaks to your heart and soul more than anything (but it needs to fit your pocketbook also!).
You've come to the right place for advice. If you really want a sportster, get on the threads that deal with them. It's a good place to start.
In the meantime, welcome to the forum from south Arkansas!
Dealer by me has some sort of 'loyalty' program, not sure if it's just them, or an HD thing. But if you buy a new Sportster, you have like a year or two to trade it back in for full purchase price on a bigger bike. Might be worth checking out.
Try sitting on several models at the dealers besides the Sporty to see which one "fits" you. Check at more than one dealer too and don't give in to their first offer, because times are lean for them right now and they want to sell those bikes they have. Then, as someone said, check out local classifieds and Craigs List. If you have a small local bank or credit union, check them out for rates, down payment and loan details too. Sometimes they can do much better than the large institutions.
