Hi from so cal: I read your posting, for my 2 cents, I did the same thing strated ride with a sportser, I move up to a Dyna Super glide, made change forward controls, SEII pipes, high air filer, wide glide handle bars, put on saddlebags, for the trips, also a custom seat, I been to Yuma, AZ about 500 miles round trip and last month did 900 miles to San Jose, something I would have done with the sportser, most of the HOG have the Touring bikes, but there on that trip, Fatbboy, Softtail standard, You are going to have see what feels the best for you, good luck and have fun riding
