Welcome to the forum from Florida! You got your sights on two great bikes, I for one would encourage you to go King. I have owned a fatboy not the heritage but pretty much the same bike except for cosmetics, but after I got my rk I would pick that one over the fatboy in the garage because to me it was more comfy. I have mine lowered and I am 5'11'' and around the 290 mark. You won't have problems with lowered bike. Just MHO
Hello and welcome from Texas. I agree that a Road King or Fat Boy would treat you good, however, I am also 6'3" at 225 and when I'm on my WG, I feel like it was made for me. You just have to make sure you get what you like.
ROFLMAO!!!
I have to agree. Salesmen at F and S said it might be the ugliest, and it is, the faring cuts through wind like no other. Doesn't mean i am going to get one though.

I just found this last night on the local craigslist. It's a little more than you are looking to spend, but a helluva deal. And it'd be a great bike for a guy of your height.
I will pass on one quote I heard on these forums that I will never forget and agree with 100%... you sit IN at Softail model, you sit ON a Touring model. I own a Softail Deuce, my dad owns a FatBoy and my mom own a Softail Deluxe... all three cradle you and when you go on a real butt burner, you have no room to shift for different comfort. I rented a Road King in Maui and rode the seven hour "Road to Hanna" ride and never felt better during the ride. I would have never been able to complete a ride that long on my Deuce without stopping for a nights rest. Four or five a day is all I can handle on a Softail. That being said, I don't want to make you think that Softails suck or anything... I love them. I love the style, it suits me. I felt like the oldest 28 year old in the USA on the Road King when I was riding it. Your decision will have to come down to whether you want ultimate comfort for real long excursions and bags to hold your prune juice, fiber oat bran and an extra jacket for your wife/girlfriend to put on and take off constantly for the hot flashes, or moderate comfort with kick your *** looks and no bags that just might land you a playmate. (I hate bags... can you tell).
