I just joined this AM. I have a 2007 FXSTC Custom Softail and my wife has a 2005 1200 Custom Sportster. I am somewhat adept with repair/maintenance on automobiles and can handle my bikes as well. Going to Sears today to get a torque wrench and grommets (TORX & Hex) and picked up a supply of oil, filters, Have K&N Air Filters in both, and transmission/crankcase oil.
I noticed on my 2007 Custom Softail that it is very difficult to get to the Transmission filler plug. Torque wrenches are too big to get in there. Does this require a special tool? I believe I need to torque it tight when I replace the oil but don't recall as I don't have the manual open in front of me.
Last question. When I get my grommets, are ALL grommets non-metric?
Welcome to the site from SoCal. I assume you are talking about the transmission plug between the shocks on the softail? I have never torques mine, I just turn it until it is tight. I assume when you are talking about grommets, you mean the o rings on the plugs. I took the orings I needed to Home Depot and mathced up the size with some in the plumbing section. I don't remember the specific sizes, and whether they were metric or standard. Just get some that are the same size.
