I am new to the HD family but not to bikes. I spent most of my younger years on a Yamaha FZR but as time has marched on I drifted from riding. I have always wanted to cross over to the world of cruising and I have always admire the tales, mystique and quality associated with the Harley Davidson name. So, now ask those of you with the experience and wisdom of years in the saddle to help guide the novice in choosing his first HD. I work in the foreign service and as such spend years at a time abroad and as such practicality and repair issues are foremost.
I am tossed up between the new 2010 Wide glide and the 2010 Rocker C. I like both styles but the rocker is more expensive and looks miserable for my wife if we were to travle anymore than 50 miles or so. I think there is a lot of room for customization and creativity with the Wide Glide, but then the Rocker is just freaking sweet.
Find out when your harley dealer is having a test ride, test all the different bikes out. I agree with RoboRider, if your going to ride two up alot look into the touring models it will be the last bike you'll need to buy
Agreed.....you will never get your mate on the back of that thing for more than a few miles just about the time you start digging the travel. Plus two-up on a Rocker does not look all that easy to do.....By the way Welcome!
Friend of mine bought a used 01 Softail Standard, sold that and bought a new 08 Rocker C after about 50 miles of his wife on the back he is ready for a Touring bike. I myself bought a 06 Deuce and after my first 500 miles I decided within 3 years I would have a Touring bike.
