I had a sales man at a dealership tell me that if I go with spoke wheels on my 09 road king and put a tourpak on the back riding with 2 people (300lbs total) the spoke wheels would not hold up and I would start to throw spokes. Is the sales man correct or not?
Hello and Welcome from Lake City, FL Many times with my Heritage which had spoke wheels went 2 up and loaded gear amounting to close if not 500 lbs and never had any worries and talking thousands of miles not a jaunt around town..
Thanks for the welcome and information. Just orders a set of rinehart slip-on's. Did not take long to figure out that you have to PAY to play with H-D's. thanks again.
B.S. on the weight thing. However, lot of of guys have experienced loosening spokes on later model HD's. Been there. Done that...Twice. Before anybody comes on here and says, You gotta check 'em". The second time mine loosened, I had just put the bike on a lift and checked them before departing on a trip. They loosened quickly within 200 miles.
My indy buddy says he sees lots of loose spokes when changing tires and has had to tighten some as many as 6 times before they quit stretching. His theory on them stretching is first, cheap spokes, and second the fact that the Twin Cam puts out more power than any other stock HD to date.
