Beginning rider from Texas

I did take the MSF course. My basic "steps" toward doing all this was:
Take MSF course (in part to make sure I just didn't turn out to be a klutz on a motorcycle, and in part to learn how to properly ride the motorcycle).
Shop around for a bike (and ultimately buy one it seems).
Get motorcycle license (done the day after buying her).
Start reading Proficient Motorcycling (this step got added on after I ran across this book and every review I could find for it were extremely positive).
In the midst of all this came buying a helmet and jacket with armor, and of course lots of riding. It's been a blast. The one thing I have to work on is my hand wave. As I've been riding down the street, I've noticed guys on cruisers going the opposite way dropping their hand low in what I've assumed is a wave. The first couple of times I wasn't quite used to it so I missed doing it. Then it happened 3 times today, but each time I was on the clutch approaching a light or kicking it up a gear right after a turn. Hopefully the guys that waved just know I'm clueless and not being a snob.
