Welcome from Bristol, England.

I followed a similar type of logic as you and bought an XL1200C a couple of years ago. Dont get me wrong, I love the Sportster and have had loads of fun with it.

However, before you start laying out your money, if your dream ride is one of the Dyna range then I would recommend you try to get a test ride on both the Sportster and the Dyna.

The Sportsters are at the lower end of the price range. But they arent the easiest of the Harley range to handle. Their weight is a little higher up than on other models. I'm told the Dyna range are much easier to ride (no personal experience of a Dyna).

Suprisingly, the sporty also feels a bit cramped when riding with the wife as pillion, but that might not be important to you.

If you can try them both and the Dyna feels better to you, then why not go for that one straight away, which would be cheaper than buying a Sporty then trading it in in a year or two for the bike you really want.

Thanks for the Warm Welcome and advice, I went to Norwich Harley today for a mooch about, Wow... some really beautiful customs and bikes in there. I must have spent well over Ł75,000 mentally

I got chating briefly to a salesman, he recommended I go for at least a 1200 sportster. Sound idea I think, As I would be doing fairly big mileage. when the weather finally turns I'm going to book a test ride on both Sportster models and a Dyna Wide and get saving! Pretty sure the Dyna will get my money....
