Within the Edit Options screen, the 'enable private messaging' tick box appears about half way down the second box, which is headed 'Messaging and Notifications'.
Unfortunately the forum wont allow me to paste a screen print of it with this message.
Just in case that doesnt help, I will send a PM to one of the moderators and ask them to look at this thread and see if they can either assist you or advise you of the reasons you're unable to use PM.
But obviously they're busy people so do allow a few days. As you cant access PM's I guess the only way they could contact you in this regard would be by adding a comment to this thread.

OK, here is the answer. We got slammed this week (not just HDF but all of our different forums) by spammers who were impersonating Admin. They sent out between 50-100 pm's in each of our forums stating that the member's account had a virus and unless it was fixed the member's account would be deleted. We got hundreds of pm's from angry and worried members wanting to know what was going on. All of these spammers were brand new and had no posts on any of the forums. This is what we came up with to control it. Spammers do not have the patience to sit around and wait or to have to post on the forum prior to spamming us so we changed the access to the pm option so that you have to be a member for 10 days and have 5 posts on the forum before you have access to the pm option.
I'm sorry if this causes anyone any inconvience but it's the only way we can control this problem. A better way to check on a problem like this is to ask this question in the "Forum Issues" section of the forum located near the top of the main forum.

This may or may not be the issue. I recently started blocking the Vibrant ads on this site with AdBlockPlus for FireFox and it would not allow me to view attached pics or send/view PMs. I don't know what browser you are using, but try using a different browser like google chrome. Once I found the problem I had to change the settings for my browser and all is well.
