Well thank you everyone for the welcome backs and the well wishes. An update to the OP is I've been back to work since 5/3 and all is going pretty well. My left ankle is fused and healing well. My right knee is still messed up, but I'm going in for knee surgery (LCL, PCL, ACL, and Meniscus repair) on 9/3. Not using any mobility assistance right now, but will be back on crutches after my surgery in Sept. I'm riding again and it feels better than ever.
I picked up a 2001 XLC Sportster 883 that I referred to in the OP here on 6/10. It was in rough shape and not running, but complete. The price was dirt cheap and I could not pass it up. I got the bike running in a week and all cleaned up and respectable in two weeks. Just put a new clutch, front tire and fixed a severe oil leak on it week before last. It's running great and was a great scoot to get me back on the road.
However, like most sporty purchases, it was a spring board for me too. I just did not expect to be upgrading this soon. But the weekend before last, when my buddy came over and told me about a smoking deal he had at his dealership, again, I could not pass it up. So last Tuesday, I signed on the below 07 Street Bob you see in my sig pic. It is pretty much all done up already and I really like the look. It only needs a stage one for now, but I'm more concerned with getting as many miles on it as possible before I'm out for surgery again in Sept.
It's been a great couple months, yielding health and two "new to me" bikes. I was able to keep the sportster because I bought it with cash. I'm going to start teaching my wife to ride and get her in the MSF class real soon. I'm riding the Street Bob regularly and it fits great! Put 275 miles on it this last Sunday on a day ride to Prescott, AZ. Weather was perfect and the bike rode like a champ.
Thanks again all. Whatever happens, don't ever give up. Keep the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, and the rubber side down.
