The Good Lord was smiling on Virginia today. The weather took a turn for the better and I took the girl out for a ride. I hope others out there were able to take advantage of some rare atmospheric tranquility!
Welcome aboard. So how'd you swing flying a plane for years and then Tank Co Cdr?
Just curious.
When I joined the Corps I selected NFO and was an Electronic Countermeasures Officer (ECMO) for 9 years. Unfortunately I had a Reserve contract and my time expired, though I was not ready to leave the Marines. So, I joined the Reserves and was a tanker for 3 years. Some of the most rewarding and enjoyable times ever. One of my fondest memories is being buttoned up inside my tank at 29 Palms, 130 outside, for nearly 2 hours waiting on the breeching vehicle to detonate its mine clearing charge. When we finally were able to open the hatch, that 130 degree air felt cold.
I had the opportunity to augment to the regular Corps and went back to flying. Cannot really tell if that was a mistake or not. I had better potential for promotion in the Reserves as my community in the NFO world is dying and we compete in our primary MOS. C'est la vie.
