Greetings riders. In all honesty, I'm not a rider but I do have a question and the only way I could ask it is to register. I hope that's okay with you. Now I can understand the fun of riding a Harley. besides that they are fuel efficient and are wonderfully designed. But really do they have to be so noisy? why?I've seen many harleys go by me while i'm driving and some make a normal level of noise but some practically blast me off the road or jar me from a sound sleep at night. The poeple on the quiet bikes look like they're having just as much fun and going just as fast as those on noisier bikes? Look, I dig loud music on occassion like Sublime or Le dZepplin but I don't subject my neighbors to it. Anyway I look forward to anyone's comments on this matter. Please ride quietly. Thank you. IN peace

Riding a motorcycle is inherently dangerous and not being seen by an automobile can mean death for a motorcyclist. Some riders believe that loud pipes offer a greater chance of being noticed and seen, and are therefore safer. There is much debate on this issue. Other riders just like the sound of a loud motorcycle. To each, his own.
I fall into this category: my bike is pretty loud. I have to agree with sjhsc though - I use the noise of my bike to help people know I am there. I try to be as considerate as possible though. For example, if I am right next to someone on the freeway with their window open, I don't blast the throttle, and I always take it easy in my neighborhood so I don't wake people up. I do like the sound though, so that's part of it also.
One of the things that I enjoy hearing is the sound of a Harley. It's like the old saying, if I had to explain it, you wouldn't understand. It's just part of the experience and everybody has their own level of enjoyment.
