Default Key points when considering used?

Hello, I am going to start shopping for my first HD within the next few months. Most likely i am going to have to buy a used one to fit my budget.

Are there specifics that i should be looking for when buying used? Typically how many miles are the Twin Cam 88's good for? I know maintanance records are probably the number one thing to look for. There are any common problems that can be masked? More than likely i will be looking at a Road King. Any common problems to watch out for with that particular model? 2003-20xx? Ideally i would like to stay around $10K-$13K as far as price range goes.

Thanks for the help!

Mike

With ANY used vehicle... if YOU don't know what to look for? have it checked out by a qualified mechanic.... better to waste $100, than a few thousands
Miles? that should not be a problem.... the engine should go 200k without a problem, IF it was well maintained
Service records are VERY important..
Biggest "worry" with a TC-88, is the cam chain tensioner, they should be replaced, or totaly by passed, by 30k.... although some have failed at 10k, while others have lasted well past 70k.
Price wise, you should have NO problems finding a low mileage cream puff, with many add-ons
good luck.... and should you buy the bike... let your first piece of "custom add-on" be a service manual....

Thanks for the info. Big help! Every vehicle i buy, i always get a service manual for it. I trust myself best to work on my vehicles. There's just too many shady mechanics out there these days. No offense to all the honest, good mechanics.

Welcome from Brooklyn NY. Plenty of great low mile, pre-owned machines out there.

Service records and a talk with the prior owner if possible.
