Well, since Craig and David chimed in, I'll have to give you a welcome from West Texas. Like everyone said, the MSF is the way to go. If you don't want to buy a piece of crap cheap learner bike, then make sure you get the bike you like the best and fits you the best. That could be any number of the HD's, like a Sporty, Dyna Low Rider or a Softail Deluxe. You should be able to flat foot the bike sitting on the seat. Mainest thing, learn the correct way to ride, take your time, practice low speed manuvers and be safe. You've found an excellent resource in this forum.
I appreciate the "howdy" from West Texas. I can see where the low speed manuvers would be well worth the practice. Okay, I'm ready to crank up the courage...
Hey Curious,Let me know if you go to Alamo or Javalina H D.I know some good salesman at each place and will hook you up with them. There are great Guys at Javalina but Alamo has a couple of Guys that just want to get you to sign on the dotted line.
Welcome to the forums from the Arizona Highlands. I'm glad to hear you will be taking the course and by all means rent before buying. Now, will your new bike be, since I am curious, yellow or blue?
Welcome from central IL. You've been given some good advice. Two thoughts I would add:
1. What kind of riding do you think you'll be doing? Long trips or mostly short trips?
2. If you look at Sportster's the 2004's and 2005's have mmuch less vibration.
Take care. I hope you find yourself at the beginning of a long and wonderful journey.
