The 883 is great, isn't it? I have a Superlow 2011 also, and I splurged on a windshield and a grille for a small travel bag; both have proven handy.
I am new at riding as well. It took me some time to feel more at ease on the streets and the highways. It's good to be mindful, certainly better than rash. After a while one begins to feel comfortable. My only advise is not to become overconfident, that is, confident beyond one's abilities.
welcome, best thing you can do is just stay alert to everything around you, key word is "EVERYTHING". nice and slow will be good for ya, i remember my first ride and i thought i was flying when i was doin 45, it will come to you over a lil bit of time, dont rush it.
