Hello
Hi all,
I am going tomorrow to pick up a Heritage Softail Classic, if it's still there. I think it will be. The last time I counted I have owned 32 motorcycles in my life (I'm 48). Three of those were Harleys, a 1978 Superglide, two 2001 sportsters - 883 Hugger (my wife's) and a 2001, 1200 Custom. Out of those three the only one that was reliable was the 883 Hugger. The 78 superglide was a knuckle buster for sure. But, it was a joy to ride. That old shovel head was pure pleasure when it was running right, which was most of the time, as long as I caressed it from time to time. I will say that it never left me broke down on the side of the road.
The 2001, 1200 custom did leave me broke down on the side of the road with a bad voltage regulator. And, it occasionally shed hardware while riding down the road. I was glad when I traded that for a Honda. My wife's Hugger was bullet proof. A great little bike. As reliable as any motorcycle I have ever owned.
Right this instant I own a 2003 Suzuki Intruder 1400 sitting in the garage. I really like that bike but, my wife wants to start riding with me. I took her on a PGR mission with me and she was turned on. Her health doesn't allow her to drive a motorcycle anymore. When we got home from the PGR mission she said "You gotta get a bike with a better back seat" which I took as an order.
I started looking and found myself a gorgeous Heritage Softail Classic. It's a little more than I intended to spend but, I figure I wont need to replace it for many years. I'm not a bag and radio (garbage wagon) guy. This Heritage is a dark purple and absolutely cleaner than when it was brand new. It has Vance and Hines pipes, S&S carb, the paint is flawless but the bags show just enough wear to give it some street cred. I figure my gray hair will go good with this bike..
