Thanks for all the help and the welcome aboard messages! The mods that bike has are what I would do as well. I just can't see paying the same price a new bike cost for something used. The dealership is in Oregon so chances of me getting it are slim. Unless they want to ride it up here and drop it off at my place.

Welcome from North Texas

My 2 cents...If you are going to buy a "learner" bike just go buy a cheap enduro or something like that. I don't believe you would learn any more or any less from buying a sportster. It will be a heck of a lot easier to get rid of a cheaper bike. Trust me when I tell you...you WILL want to buy the SG real soon. Just my pennies because I really dont believe in the whole "learner" bike idea. Or just bite the bullet and buy the SG. You can learn on any bike. Just practice and be careful. Go to a MSF course....blah...blah...blah...so forth and so on.

Don't spend that kinda money on a sportster. You will end up keeping it 6 months and be lucky to get half of your money out of it.

A sportster was my first bike and I loved it, but the resale sucks on them...Most people upgrade shortly after they buy it and the market is saturated with them.

Buy the bike you really want first, take the course and take it easy while your learning. Honestly the street glide in many ways will be easier to ride then the sporty. They are really top heavy and kinda hard to learn on.

I've already done the safety course and I have my license to ride. As soon as I got my safety course cert I went down to the DOL and got my license. I just don't want to lay over a $25K+ bike while I'm "learning" to ride. I've been told there's two types of riders. Ones that have laid it down and ones that will lay their bike down. I'd rather get experience on a cheaper bike than a brand new CVO Street Glide. Besides I may keep the Sportster and turn it over to my girl after I have enough to get a CVO Street Glide. I do appreciate the knowledge. I'm not going to pay more for a used bike than a new one. That's for sure. I have all the time in the world to find a good deal.
