I've been a member for a while now but have been trolling to fix all my issues. I sold my 1969 Triumph Bonny and bought "something more dependable" a 1990 Softail! Well, after quite a bit of reading and wrenching I'm getting this thing figured out!
I started with the base gasket repair - installed Kendal dowel fix. Replaced BLD 3" front sprocket and new belt (got to know Scruffy - like ole friends - at BDL).
Replaced worn out stator and later noticed crank oil leak. Replaced crank sprocket spacer and installed a dual lip seal - still leaked. Started reading about the steel crank housing insert saga! Started looking at case/engine options.
Researched further and found that the stator wire harness connector screws could be leaking - then I recalled changing the stator I did not seal those holes (cuz who would engineer two small sheet metal screws that go into crank case)? Saw the oil leak! Used some RVT and seal the small screws and no more leak!
