Upper Tree

Hey I am new to the group and I have a single question. Here goes I would like to only change the upper tree on my 2012 Street Bob, I looked at the manual, I know there is the top nut and washer needs to be removed, wires to fish through, I have unplugged the wires before.
So I want to make sure to remove ONLY the top tree ( Upper Tree) I want to install a black top tree. is there anything I need to do or am I ok with undoing the top tree and replacing it with another. thanks..
Please let me know I want to do this this weekend...
