Lessee...
I'm a recently reborn Christian. I'm gonna be 52 in December, grew up on crotch rockets, generally had a mediocre bad attitude but I also had parents that wouldn't give me slack on scchool work, never skipped class, got out of high school with a B average. I never paid much mind to what America was then or would become before I joined the Navy.
I graduated from Navy life into factories, growing up in Indianapolis and returning there after the service. I went to Enginnering school and became an inernational machine engineer, working for a Swiss company all over the world.
After the towers came down, it wasn't the same to be solo hopping some of the countries I was going into. It wasn't a fear thing, I just quit caring what was happening everywhere else besides right here in good 'ol USA and struggled with the idea that I was part of exactly what was changing. That put a bad taste in my mouth to know it.
I quit the traveling to settle in at Briggs & Stratton and moved to the South where I still am today.
I always wanted a bass boat and never had an idea to get another bike, especially a Harley (Don't take that wrong, I just couldn't wrap my head around some of the models...At that time, not now.). Walking into a Harley shop here in Auburn Alabama, I was accompanying a friend into "Big Swamp HD" when my eyes fell on a brand new FXDF Fat Bob. WOW...That's what I'm talking about! Immediately, I note the sales lady next to me hitting me up to try the paperwork and then she let me take it around the block several times.. The next day, back in the "Swamp". my (now) ex-wife said "You know if you buy that, the bass boat is out forever!" "Really?" No hesitation...I signed...
I've been to rallies all over and since then and come up with reasons to ride somewhere else I haven't been. My ridin buds and I don't like interstates unless it's necessary, so, the state highways are our pipline to the world and it's never more amazing then the next time we get out. I also ride daily to work and back weather permitting, but that's not considered a show stopper by any means. If it's doable, I'm ridin!
We ride smart, live to ride again, mind the law (For the most part.) and I love going to rallies where nobody really gives a rat's...well...who I am or where I come from but still give me a (Knowing) head's up just because I'm passing by on a part of the American Legend.
There are other brands and I have no problems with any of them, some of the classics even, Norton, BSA, Triumph, Indian and some of the newer, like Victory, more power to them. Seeing what the world changed to, for me, the Harley name, reputation and (Not to play down the name or do so in jest!) "Heritage" is everything that epitomized what I was looking for. Once I got a hold of it, the attention to detail, the quality that goes into HD and the level of factory support and aftermarket otherwise...I'm sold for life...Now, I can't wait to have the bones ($$$) to get an all out Ultra Classic for the road trippin and turn this one into the custom project bike.
Be safe be well all, that's mostly me for now...
