I'll agree with the guys saying it's probably cheaper to go with the Nightster than to try making the other one look like it. You didn't say what model 1200 you're looking at; sounds like you don't want lot of chrome, like a Custom would have. Didn't mention many details, but things like pegs - if you switch from mids to forwards or vice versa - can cost a few hundred; the money adds up fast on Harley mods, although a good ebay shopper with patience can save a bunch.
As far as the "you'll want a bigger one" argument, you're talking two kinds of motorcycles with different personalities; lot of us have both and would hate to give up either one. My 1200C and Tour Glide didn't cost as much combined as a new 1200C, can be done if you pick carefully and can do most or all of the wrenching yourself.
Well I am glad I listen to most of you and decided to stick to spending right. Ladies and Gentleman I have gotten myself a 2009 Nightster. Thank you all for your input. I will make a new thread so everyone can help me build a mosnter and destroy my bank account. haha
Congrats! I'm sure there are plenty of us that can help usher you in to the destroyed bank account club! (someday my wife will speak to me again, right?!?) Now climb on that thing and put some miles on!!!
