Default New Guy

Hello I am new to this forum but have been riding motorcycles since 1987.

I started out on sport-bikes (Ninja, Katana, GSXR1K) then moved over to a rice cruiser in '06 (C50).

I had always wanted a Fat Boy since I first saw one in T2 back in '91 but wasn't ready (financially or lifestyle) to pull the trigger.

My brother and I worked with a mechanic friend of his to restore my dad's 73 FLH. It was a nice ride but that shovelhead engine was a PITA. Cold blooded, belching out oil if it didn't start right away - not my thing at all but really cool to look at and ride once you got it started.

Then last summer after riding by C50 for 7 years I decided I was going to finally be a Harley rider.

I had a friend who had a HD and told him I was looking to buy a used Fat Boy. He told me to get a fuel injected bike and from what I remember of my dad's 73 FLH always being hard to start and how low maintenance my C50 w/ EFI was I agreed.

I found a 2002 FLSTFI in Alabama in my price range and as close to stock as I could find (Mustang seat, V&H pipes and aftermarket grips were the only differences) in the pearl white color. Not too thrilled about the color but after looking for a Fat Boy EFI for 2 months, I decided to make the 3 hour trip to Birmingham with money ready to buy and ride home.

I test rode the bike and had no problem handing over the cash for my new bike.

I had a very nice ride home (between the rain drops). The previous owner had lowered the suspension as far as he could by adjusting the bolts on the shocks - by the end of the trip I had wished I had returned them to stock as it felt like I was on a hardtail going over bumps on the road. The first thing a changed when I got home.

It rained nearly every day for the next month last summer but I rode every day putting nearly 2500 miles on the clock those first few weeks - it was awesome even with the rain.

I swapped out the white fender/tank for a vivid black and added crash bars and a windscreen for highway trips. I have had a great time and cant wait for spring to get out to the Dragon again.
