Default ABS Bearing Install: Which side out?

The ABS bearing has a groove around it's outer circumference. Does the groove go to the inside or the outside of the wheel?

Thanks for the pics. Makes sense. The metal seal on the bearing spins with the bearing. The rubber seal stays stationary as the bearing spins. The sensor is on the outside and reads the spinning metal seal.
Added 11-1-16: Yes, I said this backwards. The metal seal side stays stationary with the inner race. The magnetic ring beneath this seal spins with the bearings.

Actually the "metal seal" is affixed to the stationary Inner Race, but the Ring Magnet encoder (you don't see it) just behind that seal is affixed to the rotating Outer Race and is "read" by the sensor
.

Ok...I give up ...You're trying to convey ???

It appears your photo shows the NON-Encoder side of an ABS bearing (on the left) and then a Standard bearing on the right... If so, that's not the interesting side of the ABS bearing

Can you post up a pic of the encoder side of an ABS bearing Multi?

The pic I posted looked like the ABS bearings I swapped out on my bike after I pulled the seal off.

I just finished taking off my wheel and changing the "Orange" side to "IN" and the grey side "Out" after getting an ABS light. Just took it for a ride and light is no longer on. I couldn't find anywhere in the manual where it specifies. They should put a small piece of paper in the box that specifies direction. I wasn't going to change them but while changing my tire I thought the non ABS felt dry. Bike has 15000 miles. Just figured I would add to four year old thread in case anyone else needs the answer.

My factory service manual states: "ABS bearing with greenish tan side against installer".
