Default Tires getting hot

Does anyone know why Dunlop tires seem to run hot? On several bikes I have ridden over the years, my Dunlop tires get HOT to the touch after about 20 miles. I have proper inflation and have actually tried over inflation and see no real reduction in temperature.

Hot tires will give better traction-in fact, racers use electric "tire warmers" to keep their tires warm between races on track days, maximizing traction and improving tire life by reducing the number of heating/cooling cycles.

Of course, stock Dunlops are a far cry from racing slicks or super-/ hypersports, but I'm curious if anyone on the Forum has some temp numbers...

Science 101. Friction creates heat. The more heat that's generated by a tire the better the road holding capabilities of the tire.

You don't mention what other bikes you have ridden. Harley tyres are intended to give very high mileage and don't compare with the tyres of most other brands of bike. Harleys are also heavier than many other bikes, so put their tyres to extra work. If you are very heavy, routinely ride 2-up or otherwise heavily loaded, then by all means increase tyre pressures accordingly. Otherwise I would be surprised if there is anything actually wrong with them.

The other bikes are '75 FLH and '97 Goldwing. Both are equally heavy machines. The tires get equally hot. I first noticed it when I stopped and the tires were damp. There was a vapor coming off the tires. Seemed pretty hot to me. Guess it's normal. Thanks!
