Default Can I reuse Spokes once taken apart?

Quick question guys. I have a set of wire wheels that I took apart and polished the spokes and nipples to shine. Plan was to put them back together and have a shop true them for cheap. However I called two different HD stores and they strongly recommend that I change out the spoke and nipples for new ones. Now the spokes are not bent that I can see, I bought a handful of nipples to replace a few that were damaged. So I guess my concern is am I good with using the same spokes or just buy some replacements from Drag's?

well, a shop will tell you this because it is easier to install new spokes.
if the spokes are NOT deformed and not from a damaged rim, probably safe as can be.
sometimes spokes and rims will seat in together so not using the same spoke/hole is another argument. if the hooks are not bent and the saddle area not worn, they will settle in anywho. spokes are very tough and preferred over cast in a lot of situations.
we used to do a lot of dirt and always used what was at hand and never an issue. proper truing and lube is a must as well as the proper nipple wrench.

As far as you're concerned your secondhand spokes are fine, however you are not going to true the wheel and put your neck on the line! Starting with secondhand spokes is something I suspect experienced shops have already discovered can take a darned sight longer than using new stuff. Also using new spokes is the only way they can or will guarantee their finished work, as they have your safety in mind as well as their own reputation. You should have asked around before you stripped your wheels. Pony up and get them built properly with fresh spokes. Then you can admire your lovely fresh wheels with pride and confidence!
