Spoke Wheels
Had a flat tire on 07 Road King classic 2 years ago) and drove about a mile on a squirrely low tire. (had 58K on that rim) I figure that driving on it is what ultimately weakened and broke some spokes on my rim. After attempted replacement spokes I had to purchase a new wheel from JP Cycle - VTwin Mfg. Bearings were bad in a year. Now in 2 years I have another broken spoke.
Repair shop told me those wheels are only made to support 480# each. Well, that's nearly half the bike weight already. With bike weight, luggage and rider and passenger I exceed that.
I want to keep the classic look. He recommended Drag Specialties Fat Daddy 50. I like them. $967. I found others that "look" the same. Ultima Fat Daddy 48 on Ebay (crowescustomcycle) for less than half the price as Drag. Then I remember the dealer saying the name DNA - so I looked that up. I do remember him saying that their wheel edge (rim) is thin metal and to stay away them because it will dent easily. They too are 1/2 the price. So what is anyone's RECOMMENDATIONS??? Thoughts??? Suggestions???
Thanks,
Ever check and tighten spokes during that period?
Thats important
I would either relace with stainless spikes from buchanan or buy a new factory wheel
