My bike (2011 RGU with ABS) has an RC Assault billet front wheel in chrome, but the chrome is peeling inside the wheel and causing a leak on the bead. I've had the tire removed and the shop cleaned up the wheel and reinstalled the tire with some bead gunk, but after a few months it's leaking again.
I want to fix this correctly so I'm having them remove the tire and I'll take the wheel home and remove the loose chrome inside, thinking they didn't do the greatest job cleaning up the inside well last time. Probably use a wire wheel to clean up anything loose and sand any sharp stuff, then give it a coat of paint. If this doesn't work, I'll have to either send it to RC and have it replated for $400, or just buy another wheel.
So, my question......if I decide to **** can the wheel and get something else, I'm wondering if wheels are the same through the years or not. I know I need an ABS wheel but as long as I stick with the right diameter are they interchangeable?
The "Bead Gunk" generally works quite well if applies on a clean surface... I've used bead sealer many times over the years on auto wheels with great success
