Ill probably buy an extra xtra sensor to run both wheels .
You will need to enter the serial number for the new sensor in the TPMS. Write the number down when it is installed.
You can do it with proper tool or dealer will do it and charge you.
if you want to take the time, you can open them up and change the battery.
marry the sensor, depends upon the system. if you just get a warning and not location, then no.
some systems allow you to marry them without a tool by entering calibration mode and changing pressures on the called for sensor and then move to the next.
have not fooled with hd system, use the butt system.

I know when I added the sensors on the 2019 SGS, it specifically wants the identifier number for programming. My guess is, its not like a car that has receivers near the wheel for identification. Also people rotate the tires, and that would become a nightmare.
if you are talking about the wheel speed reluctor system, you can change wheels all day long since they are fixed to the wheel bearing.
some cars you can enter a calibration mode where you can allow the bcm to sense position by varying pressure, most just go to a dealer for $$$$$$$.
the covers on the in tire sensors can be removed with a little work and inside there is a button battery.
i have a tool that can tell the bcm wheel position as it sends out the serial number. but if you cannot trigger the learning mode, then a steeler with a scan tool.
i once had to change a rear ratio since the truck had a hard time pulling the trailer (whole diff story since i was pulling a trailer twice the size and weight) and the steeler want 120 dollars to change the ratio and no guarantee it would read correct speed so i bought a automotive programmer for twice the money and did it myself but now i can change performance to boot and tranny shift point and such.
