What diagnostics have you performed?
How old is battery?
What voltage numbers were measued at battery terminals? At rest? While cranking?
When was the last time a general view of bike function performed?
Did you read bike for trouble codes regarding warning lights?
thanks for replying re the electrics its the Voltage regulator getting readings of 17v at the battery. Taking the connection plug off from stator to regulator no problem with grounding. Continuity all good. I think the battery might be fried as well and wont hold a charge. Ive got it on an optimate just now charging Ill see what happens when I get home from with tomorrow whether its kept a charge or not 👍🏻

Is 17 volts a measurement using a digital voltage meter directly at battery? At rest/OFF or while at high idle?
The voltage meter on dash is not a true reading(not accurate).
A bad battery will cause all kinds of problems and can destroy a regulator and stator if continued use is forced.

Yes. I use a digital multimeter fairly regularly at work. I get readings of 17v when revving the bike when its sitting at idle it is fluctuating between 14v and 11.5 v

There is definitely an issue with regulator. However, a weak connection at battery or a defective battery with internal issue will cause that.
Start at obvious. Battery, then cable connections both ends. Then stator disconnected and check wires for grounds. Then at 2000 rpm for correct AC voltage.
It takes special equipment for regulator. If all above it good, replace the regulator for the best battery life.
Your 04 should be checked at 2000 rpm. Over 13.5 and under 15.

Thought I’d do a quick update. Changed the regulator everything running fine now getting readings fairly constant when revving now of 13.9 and seems to be running ok. That is for everyone’s help and advice
Cheers 🍻

17 is to high for the charge, it was an indication that the VR was going. Good thing you changed it. So far as the tire cracks. Get it up on a lift and deflate the tire. Press on the tire and see if the cracks are actually cracks or scuffs. Check for cracks in the tread grooves.
Metzlers a good tire. And the tread pattern doesnt follow the cracks in the road.

I managed to get the service history of the bike its 20 years old now and only 12000 miles. Apparently they were the original tyres. Changed them to Metzelers. All good thanks. Ive had Metzelers on my VFR and Fireblade. Have always liked them esp Fireblade as I had that on a racetrack with knee down and as much lean as I had the courage for Thanks once again for the advice been a really friendly forum and I wear my forum sweatshirt with pride 😂😂
