Default AE2 Pressure Question

Does anyone run the newer American Eagle 2 rear tire? I came off the AE1 (original made in USA one) and since the USA ones are no longer made, I had to settle for the AE2. So far the tire is performing as expected except for one thing: Air Pressure. I know it goes up as the tire gets warm, but the spread is almost twice as much as the original tire. I’ll start at 39psi in the morning (low 70’s) and when I come back in the afternoon (low-mid 90’s) it expands to 45-46 and you can tell it, because the ride gets real hard/firm. The original AE only went up about 2, maybe 3 psi and wasn’t an issue. If I lower the cold pressure to 36-37 in the morning I get the stupid light coming on, but in the afternoon the tire doesn’t expand as much. There is no brake drag, no bearing issues, etc, just the tire change. Has anyone else experienced such a drastic pressure change with these newer AE’s?

In NC temps my AE (first gen) fronts would go from 36 to 39-40 and rear would go from 40 to 44-46. Solo 220lb rider on FLHX, FLTRXS, and FLHP.

I had/have Factory TPMS on those three bikes that was very accurate in my experience, so I can watch it in real time.

That's pretty much what I'm seeing on this new tire. The old one never got that high, and when the new one does, it gets to be a pretty firm ride. So I guess this is the new normal?

My AE gen ones were doing what I posted as early as five years ago and I never had them before that. I had them on three different touring bikes and the behavior was consistent.

Wouldn't this mean the AE2 is a softer compound? More road friction and / or sidewall flexing creates more heat?

So, it starts out more grippy but then rides harsher due to higher air pressure? Doesn't seem like a good rubber recipe.

I don’t know. @gonemad says his gen 1’s acted the same way. My gen 1’s did not. But to gain 6-7 lbs of air to me is a bit too much. The gen2 tire seems to ride just like the other sans the excess pressure.

My Metzeler ME880 rear does the same. My TPMS is shows my rear tire pressure going from 42 cold to 50-52 when riding in 95 degree heat. In cooler temps, I get less rise.

Just a thought, can we or have anyone run nitrogen in their tires

I have always run about 78% Nitrogen in the tires on all my vehicles, never needed any more than that...
