Default Yellow locktite?!?

I pulled my rear wheel (05 Fat Boy) and removed the rotor and sprocket.

The bolts holding the sprocket appeared to be held with yellow locktite.

Never heard of yellow.

Is this analogous to one of the more familiar colors?

It's that pre applied crap the factory uses. Starts out as a smear on the threads and liquifies from friction when bolt is torqured and then resets.

So what should I use when I put it back on?

you know the manuals tells you all of this. it is extremely important to torque the sprocket correctly.
The bolts that hold both the rotor and sprocket are one time use and need to be replaced each time they are removed.
Some guys reuse the rotor bolts, I would not, the cost is less than 10 bucks to replace them.
However, blue on rotor bolts and red on sprocket.

I have the service manual. Sometimes it seems to assume that you have done it before and leaves out little important tidbits of information, so I like to get information from more than one source to make sure that I have all the facts.

For instance, the installation section says nothing at all about the rotor and sprocket bolts being single use or that they should be replaced, nor does the removal section say that the old ones should be discarded and replaced with new ones. The wording seems to indicate that you are reusing the bolts you took off.

you know you are correct, it does not say it for the rear, but it does for the front, in the 06 manual.
I know it said it with the directions for my new wheel and rotor.
I stand corrected.
I would still replace them regardless. I have seem them come loose on the sprocket before. when they do, it will cost you a wheel and swingarm.
I wonder why it wants you to on the front rotor but no the back?
Why did you pull off the rotor and sprocket?
make sure you put some antiseeze on the axle.
I roll the tire up on a 2x4 then lower the bike to it. easier than lifting it up.

I look in the 07 softail and 07 dyna manuals. Both said the discard and replace the rotor and sprocket bolts.

I'm going to replace them as you suggest. I prefer to err on the side of caution. Thats why I ask in the forums as well as look in the book. If I had just followed the book I would not have known this

Will the replacement bolts already have the thread locker on them or should I still hit the home depot?

Why did you pull off the rotor and sprocket?
The back wheel got really corroded and I need to rub the crap out of it
to bring it back from the dead.

I cant clean it properly with those items in the way...

Thanks for the tips, man

I got the chrome bolts to replace mine. No, they did not come with loctite pre applied.
The sets that come in a wheel install kit come with it pre applied.
I would get the set first and see before buying the loctite. I do not know about you, but I use the blue regular, but the red will go bad before I need it again.
Did you sand the rotors, to polish them? I had to use a buffing wheel and polishing compund to clean the wheels, the first time.

I was not planning to.

Is this a thing you have to do every time you pull it off , or is it a "while you have it off you might as well..." sort of thing?
