What Size Tire?????
I'm going to bed because I've gotta be up for work in a couple hours and I want to order a tire when I get to work so I apologize for not searching. SORRY!
I'll check back before I head out to work so hopefully someone will have some good insite.
If I'm rambling I'm sorry because I'm tired as hell, lol.

On a 1997 Softtail Springer, the stock size is a 130/90B16 and/or the alpha-numeric MT90B16...so those will work just fine.
A 140/90B16 is about as big as you can get on your motorcycle with making modifications.
To be honest, you are going to have difficulties finding a "decent" motorcycle tire for under $100 shipped. The least expensive by far though, will be the online dealers...local dealers and shops can't even come close in price.
As far as brands, you have options from Dunlop, Michelin, Metzeler, Avon and Pirelli, just off of the top of my head. Of course, tire opinions on an online forum like this are legion...so I will leave that open for discussion...!
Cheers
