Default 2000 roadking rear tire size?

I am wondering if anyone can help me. I would like to put a slightly wider tire on my 2000 road king. I have a dunlop/harley d402 90B16, I belive stock size. wonder if I can put a 140/90 16 or larger. there's not much room before interference with the belt.

I and others have been putting MU/140 wide tires on the pre-'02 Touring bikes for years. I've done it on a '96 Road King as well as a 2000 Ultra. The tire is close to the belt guard but workable as long as the rear wheel is absolutely in proper alignment. On occasion when backing up the bike the belt walks inboard and may rub a bit.. I've never had a problem otherwise. YMMV.

Use a 140 tire instead of the MU85B, the profile is differant and you won't experience the belt guard rub.

Default thanx

thanx for the replies. second part is profile. most tires I see for my RK are 90 profile, I would like to drop the rear a little, can I go with 80 or 70% or will this cause other problems?

I have an Avon Venom 140/90 on the rear of my 1990 bike and removed the rubber skirt from my belt guard to get it in. There is just 3/16 inch clearance between belt and tyre edge.

What you need to establish is the fitted width of your current tyre and also for alternatives. Avon give that information on their website here.. You may be able to get the same information for other brands.

A Venom 130/90 is 133mm wide and a 140/90 is 143mm wide. Avon recommends the same tyres for your bike, but you may have more clearance to fit alternatives. Avon also make 150, 160 and 170 wide tyres, but they are likely to have a similar sidewall height to your standard tyres. 160 and wider tyres are likely to need a wider rim that your stock wheel.

Sure sometimes it will work. Just check your belt clearance, bolt clearance under the fender. I would try the 140 series instead of the MU. With a little patience and time it can be done.
